Lawyer Zhang Weiqiang, the core lead reader of the reading club, led us on an exploration of underlying logic with professional insights and accessible expressions.
We often get confused in daily life: why do certain complicated matters follow clear rules? Why do some people achieve twice the result with half the effort while others get half the result with twice the effort with identical hard work? In fact, all these phenomena are governed by underlying logic, the core rules behind the operation of all things and the key to uncovering essences and solving problems.
Drawing on his professional experience and life perceptions, Lawyer Zhang avoided obscure academic jargon. Instead, with real-life cases and plain explanations, he illustrated that mastering underlying logic is not about pursuing abstruse knowledge but about spotting clear directions and making sensible decisions amid a chaotic world. Such logic helps us cut through confusion and simplify complexities in professional judgements, daily choices and our understanding of the world.
This guided reading not only enabled us to gain a clear understanding of underlying logic, but also taught us to view everything around us from a more rational and insightful perspective, setting a tone of exploring essence and focusing on practical implementation for the subsequent sharings by the other two participants.
Sharing Session
From rational cognition to relaxing fun, the session is packed with valuable takeaways.

Following Lawyer Zhang Weiqiang's guided reading, two distinctive yet equally wonderful sharing sessions heated up the atmosphere, bringing both upgraded cognition and relaxing pleasure.
《Fact》
Sharer: Wang Chujun
Wang Chujun: Dispelling Anxiety with Rationality and Being a Clear-eyed Optimist
Wang Chujun’s sharing on Fact resonates perfectly with Lawyer Zhang Weiqiang’s exploration of underlying logic, as seeing the truth of the world marks the very first step to mastering such logic.
She noted that Fact is never a book meant for memorizing statistics, but one that teaches readers how to interpret data properly. It does not aim to erase human emotions, but to prevent emotions from being hijacked by prejudice.
In an era of explosive information and pervasive anxiety, we are frequently trapped by negative news and irrational sentiments, falling into the misconception that the world is worsening. The fact-based mindset advocated in the book helps us break free from the grip of gloomy headlines to recognize global progress and promise, avoid emotional biases to make sound judgments, and embrace the world with calm and objectivity to ease unnecessary anxiety and confrontation.
As Hans Rosling, the book’s author, put it: learning the truth about the world is not to grow indifferent, but to practice kindness more effectively. Replacing prejudice with facts allows us to focus on practical problems instead of draining energy on unfounded fears and conflicts.
This sharing helped us reconcile with anxiety, perceive the real world rationally, and stay level-headed with neither blind optimism nor groundless pessimism.
《Guandan Tips》
Sharer: He Jing
He Jing: Wisdom Hidden in Fun, Gains While Relaxing
If the previous two sharings were a distillation of ideas, Lawyer He Jing’s sharing on Guandan Tips served as a delightful stress reliever.
Equal parts strategic and entertaining, Guandan is more than mere leisure; it embodies insights into interpersonal interaction and teamwork. Drawing from abundant practical experience, Lawyer He generously shared game tactics ranging from card memorization and partnering coordination to mental regulation and on-the-spot adjustment, with every tip practical and easy to grasp.
He remarked in good humor that Guandan mirrors life, filled with highs and lows, cooperation and competition. Mastering its rules brings entertainment while subtly sharpening logical thinking and teamwork skills, another vivid manifestation of underlying logic.
All participants listened attentively and engaged in frequent exchanges, filling the previously formal reading session with laughter and granting everyone a moment of easy joy amid busy daily lives.
《Friends, Come See the Snow》
Sharer: Chen Zhen
Chen Zhen: Warm Humanity Amid Wind and Snow
Beyond cognitive inspiration and amusing sharing, Chen Zhen delivered an in-depth interpretation of Chi Zijian’s short story collection, infusing the reading club with exquisite warmth and humanistic depth.
She mentioned that snow forms the backbone and mortal lives flesh and blood of this collection. Most stories unfold in snowbound villages of Northeast China, depicting joys and sorrows of ordinary folks.
Snow functions both as setting and narration. It falls upon partings of old friends and settles amid the bustle of daily life. The book contains desolation of separation and death, yet more enduring warmth lingering amid hardship. The author contrasts frigid surroundings with fervent human affection.
Wind and snow constitute the mundane backdrop of mortal life; what truly touches the heart is the everlasting lamplight in bitter cold and moments when strangers meet and lean on each other for warmth in snow.
Chen Zhen’s sharing flowed like a warm current. Apart from rational reflection, all attendees felt the tenderness and power embedded in words and perceived the beauty and hope hidden within ordinary life.
This reading session featured three speakers with distinct perspectives yet the same original aspiration: to explore through reading and grow through sharing.
Lawyer Zhang Weiqiang guided us to dig into the underlying logic of the world, enabling us to see through appearances and move forward rationally. Wang Chujun helped us understand facts to shake off anxiety and stay sensible and kind. Lawyer He Jing shared tips on Guandan, allowing us to gain wisdom and relieve stress amid fun. Chen Zhen led us into Chi Zijian’s literary world, where we felt the warmth of humanity and the power of ordinary lives against a snowy backdrop.
Reading is never a solitary journey but companionship and mutual enlightenment among a group. We draw strength from texts, exchange ideas in sharing and discover new sides of ourselves through communication.
May we carry insights from this activity, stick to reading, keep exploring fundamental logic and accumulating life wisdom. May we possess a rational mind as well as delightful hobbies, growing and shining step by step.
We look forward to meeting again at the next reading club for another feast of thoughts.
